Dr. Timothy Moore

On September 1, 2020, Dr. Timothy Moore became Indian River State College’s fourth president. 

Dr. Moore brings to the role more than three decades of experience in federal, private, and  academic research and development experience, including service in higher education as Vice  President for Research at Florida A&M University and Associate Vice President for Institutional  Advancement and Research Program Development at Auburn University. Dr. Moore has extensive  leadership experience in the areas of strategic planning and budget development, oversight of  research center development and promotions, licensing, commercialization and technology  transfer, advancement of student research, fundraising, and economic development. 

Dr. Moore has been the architect of a number of “firsts” during his career, including securing more  than $350 million in competitive federal contract awards in the past three decades across a variety  of federal agencies. He also spearheaded the largest competitive award in Auburn University  history, the Equine Source Plasma Program. The endeavor produced equine-derived antibodies for  use in an FDA-licensed Botulinum antitoxin vaccine, and most notably, generated more than $50  million in sales over 10 years and produced 500 new jobs for the region. 

Prior to joining Indian River State College, Dr. Moore was the Co-Founder and Chief Science  Officer of Probaxstra, Inc., a probiotics-based human supplements business; Chief Science Officer  at MagPlasma, a veteran-owned small business where he conceived and patented a novel patient  respired air treatment system for use in nursing homes and hospitals; Senior Vice President for  Commercial Business Development for Ventech Solutions, Inc., a privately-owned Healthcare IT  Solutions Firm; Director of Federal Research Program Development at the National Agricultural  Biosecurity Center at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan., and led a federal Homeland  Security contract to invest more than $200 million in a new agricultural disease center research  complex. He also served as market-sector manager for multiple product lines, including the Army  and Marine Corps’ business activities at the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National  Laboratory in Richland, Wash., where he oversaw the business activities for the nation’s fourth  largest national laboratory. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Moore served as an active duty Army  officer from 1985 to 1992, including a post as the Director of the U.S. Army’s Chemical Weapons  Defense Laboratory in Dugway Proving Ground in Utah. 

Dr. Moore holds a BS degree in Biology from Wofford College, a MS degree in Biology and  Microbiology from NC State University, and a Ph.D. in Kinesiology-Exercise Physiology from  Auburn University.
